The One About Cashief Nicols, Cashh, Cashtastic (uk rapper)

The Nest Sessions: Featuring Cashh – London – Colours, Hoxton

I went to see Cashh formerly known as Cashtastic on Thursday 16th July. An interesting day to say the least. The actual event was very eye opening, serene and very sensitive for me actually. I felt his pain and I heard it in some of the songs. There were about 3 extra artists there: Kojey Radical performed “Born” one of my favourite songs ever and two other lesser known artists. I’ll be honest, I was there for Cashh and just happy I got there in time to see his performance.

Getting there just in time, it was a calm vibe. Very intimate and quite cool. The musicians were doing their thing and the MC who I didn’t actually see, announced Cashh to come on. One thing I’ve noticed about Cashh, is that he is a very humble individual. As much as he is boasy and aggressive in some songs, that essence never really leaves.

Anyway, Cashh had an aim to perform all unreleased songs but added a few fan favourites in there: Mexico, Dweet and Born. It was nice, but honestly the whole thing was a little heavy for me towards the end. I think this is when he spoke on the death of a family member.

Change makers and the struggles they go through:

Looking in his eyes, I could see hell. He’s been through so much pain and it’s obviously in his music… he’s had numerous deaths, betrayal from friends, people not giving him his accolades, severe family matters and yeah… a lot of stuff.

In his head, he knows he deserves great things and is a G but the pain. The pain. The PAIN! The pain was really hard to ignore. Personally I be feeling Cashh’s pain as well, because I feel he deserves a lot more, but that’s just me! The songs weren’t like his other songs, it gave a Bob Marley type feel especially with the instrumentals and vibe of it all. He was actually straining his voice a bit at some points.

I really liked them and can’t wait to listen. I’m not sure if this is from the next album but it definitely gave the Lauryn Hill Unplugged vibe. For sure. I wouldn’t be mad at this being an e.p.

He asked a question along the lines of who here can sense when they are around people with a bad vibe and does it take them long or a bit quicker to sense that? That was an interesting question because I’ve been learning a lot more about this.

Won’t touch on that too much just yet.

I don’t want to touch on the what he’s been through too much again because it’s quite a sticky subject, and it was very impactful for me the day after. His life has been really really tough, and obviously so has mine but I felt sad for 1/2 days afterwards. Some people go through too much and it’s sometimes a do or die, sometimes a kill or be killed, sometimes heal, be healing and figure it out slowly. There’s a time for everything under the sun.

I hope Cashh does go down as one of greats. I hope more than anything he’s able to make himself proud continuously and never feels he has to over do it. I hope his fruit (kids) make him proud as well. I hope his footsteps remain blessed and his mind stays well.
